Grading
Warning
This policy is tentative until the first week of class.
Everything is out of 100 marks.
| Component | Marks | How |
|---|---|---|
| Quizzes | 54 | Three quizzes; your best two count, 27 marks each. |
| Assignments | 39 | Three programming assignments, 13 marks each. |
| Attendance | 7 | Biometric-tracked (see below). |
Quizzes — 54
- Three quizzes through the semester; the best two of three count, so a single bad day is forgiven.
- Closed book. A mix of short conceptual questions and problems.
- No makeup quizzes — a missed quiz is simply one of the dropped scores.
Assignments — 39
- Three assignments, 13 marks each, in Python + PyTorch. Each extends code you have already seen in a lecture notebook.
- Each is a programming submission by the deadline.
- After the deadline, every student takes a short individual quiz / viva on their own submission — you explain your code, your plots, and your choices. Your marks reflect that conversation, so submit work you can defend.
Note
Use AI tools honestly and document meaningful assistance. What is assessed is your ability to explain your own decisions and results in the viva.
Attendance — 7
Attendance is recorded on the biometric system — it is your responsibility to ensure it registers.

There is no leave-request system; a missed class is an absence. For a genuine emergency that forces you to miss several classes in a row, talk to the instructor.
