Grading
Quizzes and assignments make up the grade, with bonus marks on top.
| Component | Weight | How |
|---|---|---|
| Quizzes | 60% | Eight closed-book quizzes of equal weight, 10% each; your best six count. Some may be held in the exam slot. A missed quiz is marked zero, for any reason. |
| Assignments | 40% | Programming assignments of varying weight (for example 5% or 10%), each followed by a viva. Some involve making pull requests to public repositories or building Hugging Face Spaces–style demos. |
| Bonus | 6% | Up to 6%: a non-trivial pull request to a well-starred public repository (4%), and getting it accepted (2%). |
Assignment marks
In the viva, the TAs first check that the code matches the submission (any change is not allowed and earns a warning), run it and ask questions: about 75% on the assignment itself and about 25% on the theory behind it. In a group, all members get the same grade.
| Part | Share |
|---|---|
| Code runs correctly and solves the problem | 50% |
| Understanding of the assignment and code | 25% |
| Code quality | 12.5% |
| Theory behind the concepts | 12.5% |
There are no extensions for assignments, and they must be written in Python.
Bonus pull request
You may choose the pull request from a list decided by the teaching staff, who decide whether a pull request is suitable.
Attendance
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged: marks often correlate with attendance.

Only the brief for Assignment 5 is on this site: CNNs and transfer learning on an image dataset you build. Questions about an assignment go to the General channel on Slack; if there is no response within two days, write to the instructor.
