Exposition assignment

Assignment 4: each team explains and demonstrates its assigned tool, library or framework in a 4-minute video and a blog article hosted on GitHub Pages. All 129 team submissions are online.

Deliverables

  • A 4-minute video explaining and demonstrating the assigned topic.
  • A blog article with explanations, code snippets and screenshots, hosted on GitHub Pages.

Video

You are free to structure the video to suit your topic and presentation style. One suggested template:

  1. Introduction (30 s): briefly introduce the tool, library or framework and/or the problem it solves.
  2. Key features (1 min): highlight its important capabilities.
  3. Demonstration (2 min): show a hands-on example.
  4. Conclusion (30 s): summarise its strengths and potential use cases.

Formatting:

  • Resolution: a high-quality screen recording (1080p recommended).
  • Audio: clear, with minimal background noise.
  • Narration: concise and well paced.
  • Visuals: a mix of slides and live demonstrations.
  • Background music: royalty-free music may be used.
  • Editing: tools such as Canva may be useful.

Each team submits:

  • Video link: uploaded to a public platform such as YouTube or Drive.
  • YouTube title: clear and relevant to the topic.
  • YouTube description: a brief summary of the content with relevant links.
  • Chapters: timestamps for the sections of the video.

Blog article

A suggested organisation; your topic may not need all of these, or may need more. Adapt where necessary.

  1. Title: clear and descriptive.
  2. Introduction: an overview of the tool and its purpose.
  3. Installation and setup: steps to install and configure it.
  4. Key features and explanation: its main functionality.
  5. Code examples: working examples with explanations.
  6. Screenshots: to illustrate important points.
  7. Use cases: practical applications.
  8. Conclusion: summary and final thoughts.
  9. References and further reading: links to official documentation or tutorials.

Hosting on GitHub Pages:

  • Use a Jupyter notebook, a Markdown-based site (for example Jekyll), Quarto or similar.
  • Make sure the formatting is correct and the layout works on mobile.
  • Link all necessary files in the repository.

Submission

  1. Upload the video to a public platform (YouTube or Drive) and share the link.
  2. Provide the YouTube title, description and chapter timestamps.
  3. Provide the GitHub Pages link to the blog article.
  4. Submit all details on the course submission portal.

The deadline was announced on Slack; the tentative deadline was 25 February 2025 (see Dates).
