Grading
Everything is out of 100%.
| Component | Weight | How |
|---|---|---|
| Quizzes | 60 | Four quizzes, 20% each; your best three count. The mid-semester and end-semester exams are two of the four. No makeup for a missed quiz, for any reason. |
| Assignments | 32 | Six assignments, done in groups of three, with variable weights (for example 10% or 12%). Some involve pull requests to public repositories or Hugging Face Spaces-style demos. |
| Attendance | 8 | See attendance. |
| Total | 100 |
Attendance
| Absences | Marks |

| 4–5 | 7% |
| 6–7 | 6% |
| 8–9 | 4% |
| 10–11 | 2% |
| ≥ 12 | 0% |
Leave
Fill out the leave application form and, at the same time, email all three TAs below. Emailing ensures faster processing of your request.
- Drishti, 24210033@iitgn.ac.in
- Palak Gupta, 24250063@iitgn.ac.in
- Shataxi Dubey, shataxi.dubey@iitgn.ac.in
Use the subject line “ES114 Leave Request”, exactly in this format. For long leave, copy all three TAs and ask the instructor for permission in the same email.
Assignments
There are six group assignments, each followed by a viva (see Dates). Assignment 4 is the exposition assignment: a 4-minute video and a blog article on a tool or library, marked out of 10. All 129 team submissions are online.
There are no extensions. Assignments must be written in Python, and all members of a group get the same grade.
Assignment marks
At the viva, the TAs first check the code against the submission; any change from the submitted code leads to a warning. They then run the code and ask questions: about 75% on the assignment itself and about 25% on the theory behind it.
| Part | Share |
|---|---|
| Code runs correctly and solves the problem | 50% |
| Questions on the assignment and your code | 25% |
| Code quality | 12.5% |
| Questions on the theory | 12.5% |
